BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) Committee

Kristin Gleitsman

BYOFs are a HiPower activity intended to continue to help us build out our bonds and also expand our network. They are organized at a grassroots level by Hipowerites for others in their area and may take shape as hikes, picnics, cocktail hours, or other informal social activities. Attendees are encouraged to invite a woman or non-binary friend working in a professional arena so we can expand our network.

BYOF Committee Mission Statement

The mission of the BYOF Committee is to foster deeper relationships between HiPower members and expand our network by providing opportunities for members and friends to connect in a welcoming, informal setting.

BYOF Committee Obligations

The BYOF Committee Members shall be responsible for the following:

  • Organize BYOFs. Every committee member should aim to organize at least one BYOF in their area during the year.

  • Empower others to organize BYOFs. Explain BYOFs to other Executive Members and encourage them to organize their own. Provide ideas for BYOF activities and let them know you’re there to support them.

  • Create a calendar. Create a centralized calendar where members can view upcoming BYOFs, including locations and dates. Make sure events are well-timed.

  • Promote BYOFs. Promote BYOF events to other local HiPower members using Mobilize, and to your own network. Help primary organizer create e-blasts, personalized communications, and social posts as needed.

  • Provide logistical support. Assist primary organizer with logistics — e.g. reserving a venue, acquiring refreshments, scheduling — as necessary.

  • Follow up on new connections. At each event, make sure to get contact information from any new connections who seem like good candidates for the Signature Program, or who could be good speakers/guests. Send a follow-up email to let people know how they can stay connected to HiPower.
