Workshop 2: Resume Layout - More Than Just Formatting

Drafting a great resume is tough -- but it can also be incredibly rewarding, and a helpful exercise as you refine your platforms. When done right, your resume will bridge

  • a deep understanding of the role's requirements with

  • a taste of the magic that makes you the best person to deliver against them.

In this session, we'll walk through a formula and a format to put your best foot forward through a resume.

Workshop 3: Writing Your Board Resume

Is there a difference between a job resume and a board resume?  The answer is a resounding yes.  Board roles are few and far between and when they do become available, it is because the company is looking for something very specific to round out the board.  You need to know what they are looking for and then lead with how you fit that profile.

Before coming to this session,

  • think about a real or fictious public or private board you would like to one day join,

  • think about what kinds of skills and experience such a board might be searching for, and

  • come prepared to discuss how to position yourself to meet those particular needs.

Workshop 4: The Spark that Pulls together a Speaking Topic

Are you itching to give a JAN Talk (HiPower’s shorter version of TED, named after the incredible Jan Kang) but can’t seem to get your ideas flowing or structure together?  Structure is the middle child of the presentation process. Flanked by its siblings, content and delivery, it offers a solid plan that holds everything else together.

When you brainstorm with others, the mish-mash of ideas sparks creativity. So come to this workshop, throw out your own ideas, listen to others, and participate in the fervent creative process.  We have only 3 rules:

1.  Don’t hold back. Suspend judgement - whether it’s directed internally or outward.

2.  Be extra kind to the folks who have enough guts to put half-baked ideas out there.

3.  Treat every idea as valuable.
