Junna Ro

General Counsel, Compliance Officer & Corporate Secretary | Head of People, MetroMile

Junna Ro is a seasoned legal and compliance executive, and most recently served as general counsel and head of people at Metromile (NASDAQ: MILE), a publicly-traded insurtech offering pay-per-mile auto insurance. In addition to overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters, she was responsible for people operations, total rewards, recruiting, and diversity equity & inclusion. In 2022, she helped lead the company through a successful acquisition.

Junna joined Metromile with more than 15 years of experience in the industry at AAA (CSAA Insurance Group), a $5B company, one of the top 20 personal lines property and casualty insurance groups in the U.S., and a trusted household brand. She was vice president, chief ethics and compliance officer and associate general counsel, responsible for corporate compliance and ethics, privacy, product forms, and employment law. 

Before AAA, she served as corporate counsel at Symantec and its predecessor VERITAS Software for seven years. 

Junna has written and spoken about various topics including diversity, equity and inclusion, ethical leadership and the importance of building culture, and on compliance, risk, and governance. She is also passionate about civic engagement and has volunteered for organizations such as the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights, Election Protection Hotline, Vote Forward, and Postcards to Voters.

Junna earned her JD from Santa Clara University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA. She also earned a certificate at the General Counsel Institute at UC Berkeley Law. She sits on the Asian Pacific Fund’s advisory council, and previously served on the executive committee for the National Association for Diversity in Compliance, and on the boards of the Bay Area Ethics and Compliance Association and the Korean American Bar Association of Northern California. Junna was selected to be part of Leadership California’s Current Issues & Trends 2018 cohort, and is a member of Chief, TechGC, the Bay Area Asian American General Counsel Network, and the Women’s General Counsel Network. She is admitted to practice law in California.
