Katrine Gray

Philanthropist,

Katrine (TingTing) Gray, first generation immigrant from China, is a philanthropist, author, cellist, and dancer. She holds M.B.A and M.Ed. degrees and speaks multiple languages. She is a former investment banker and a teacher of adults moving out of homelessness and children of new immigrants.

She is a co-founder and Board Treasurer of the Cantata Collective, which endeavors to present all Bach’s 240+ cantatas to the public free of charge. On seeing a void in Historically Informed Performances (HIP) of large scale choral and symphonic music, she recently launched a new series to fulfill that need, employing world-class performers on authentic period instruments. Her other major philanthropic endeavors span from the Iron Triangle of Richmond to the classrooms in Chicago, and from the valley of Northern California to the Volta Region of Ghana. No matter the geographical area, however, her efforts share a focus on lifting humanity through the arts.

In her native language of Chinese, she published short stories and translations of poetry while still in high school. In her second language of English, she has written Crescent Lane, a novel which was short-listed in the Work-in-Progress category of the Faulkner-Wisdom Competition. The completed novel was a finalist of Hidden River Arts and Orison Books competitions and has landed an agent. She has begun writing her next novel simultaneously in English and Italian.

She is a life-long pupil of music and dance, a newly-minted nerd of crossword and other puzzles, an adventurous traveler, the mother of two strong-willed young women. She is partner to a husband who collaborates and engages with her endeavors.
