Sally Jo Fifer is President and CEO at ITVS and oversees a staff of 70 and the funding, co-production and public television launch of 45 documentaries by independent filmmakers each year. During her tenure, ITVS films have garnered 16 Emmy awards, 10 duPont-Columbia awards, 25 Peabody awards and 17 Academy Award nominations. In 2017, ITVS received both the prestigious Television Academy Governors Award and the Peabody Institutional Award for its core commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in front of and behind the camera. Sally has led the organization’s launch of the primetime Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens and its international expansion through the Global Perspectives Project, which has funded over 140 international independent documentary films reaching more than 100 million viewers in two dozen countries. ITVS is also a leading driver of multi-year thematic initiatives, such as Women and Girls Lead Global, working domestically and internationally, combining broadcasts, transmedia, social, and NGO and journalism partners to advance civic dialogue and engagement. Sally received her B.A. from University of California, Berkeley and her Masters from Stanford University and has received executive training fellowships from both Stanford and Harvard Universities.
