Julia R. Wilson

Julia Wilson has devoted her career to ensuring that the civil justice system is accessible to ordinary Americans.  She currently serves as an executive, team, and organizational coach and consultant focused on supporting civil justice leaders and nonprofits throughout the country.  She also is the inaugural executive director of the John Paul Stevens Foundations, honoring the legacy of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens by investing in the next generation of public interest lawyers and leaders.  In her previous role as the CEO of OneJustice, she led the organization's award-winning work to bring life-changing legal help to those in need by transforming the civil legal aid system. Julia is known for her application of systems analysis, innovation practices, and design thinking to the thorny problem of how to expand civil legal aid to reach the millions of Americans experiencing life problems that have legal solutions. She started her legal career by providing direct legal services to low-income children and families at the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, including as an Equal Justice Works Fellow and as Legal Aid’s inaugural Pro Bono Director, and then served as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Association of California (LAAC).  Julia received a 2017 Leadership Award from the James Irvine Foundation, was named one of the 2012 Top 100 Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal for her leadership at OneJustice, and received a 2010 CLAY (California Lawyer of the Year) Award from California Lawyer magazine. She is proud to serve on the Board of Directors of Equal Justice Works and BoardSource.
