Theresa Kushner is an accomplished, business-centric data executive, board advisor and published author who leads companies through transformation during rapid technology, regulatory and market disruptions. She brings 25+ of expertise harnessing data and analytics, company and customer information to lower costs and contribute multi-billion dollar growth for technology leaders including Cisco Systems, IBM, VMWare, and Dell/EMC. She has a strong track record overcoming challenges faced by the business application of technology to the data and information supply chain. Theresa is qualified to advise CEOs and Boards of legacy and startups attempting – or developing products and services for digital transformations.
Theresa was brought in as Senior Vice President, Performance Analytics Group at Dell/EMC (NYSE: EMC), the multinational computer technology leader with $79.9B in revenue, to restructure a 925-person business intelligence and data management organization. With 80% of her team outside the U.S., including India, Bratislava, and Bangalore, she built an advanced analytics team in India, restructured the Business Intelligence (BI) technical support in partnership with the IT organization, and established an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning center of excellence. Within 10 months at Dell, Theresa drove the application of analytics to generate over $300M in revenue while reducing the team to 725 employees, which saved $5M, and integrated data views between EMC and Dell.
As Senior Director of Customer Information, Strategic Marketing at Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO), Theresa created the analytics team that contributed $4.5B in revenue in a 3-year period, by identifying key up-sell and cross-sell opportunities. With a charge to build a view of the customer for the Strategic Marketing organization of this $48B revenue generating technology leader, she partnered with IT, digital, product and program marketing teams to develop a segmentation of Cisco’s customer base for marketers to target more effectively.
Theresa also led as the Vice President of Information Innovation Center at VMWare (NYSE: VMW), where she built the business intelligence and advanced analytics function from conception – using customer and product data to drive market direction, cut costs and generate unseen revenue. She contributed to the overall revenue growth of $2.31B in 4Q 2016 (a 14% YoY growth), with a 20% license revenue increase to $1.07B through utilizing customer and product data. She created the program framework and operating governance council for customer and product data across all aspects of VMWare, collaborating with Security and financial policy makers, ensuring the company complied with appropriate use of data. Theresa developed a common product and customer data source that delivered an automated, 360-view of customer to the boardroom, which was used by board directors for all monthly interactions and used by the President for daily business views.
Theresa is a member of data.world Advisory Board, where she advises on using data and analytics, using data to measure marketing contributions and on aligning organization with industry experts. Theresa is a thought leader on data with two co-authored books on the subject. She is a sought-after speaker on data and analytics and a regular contributor to Latin Business Today – also sitting on the Advisory Council to this site. Theresa has been recognized with numerous awards, including the International Institute of Analytics Association Award for VMWare analytics (2016) and Database Marketing Association Award for Excellence from Cisco, among others. Her teams have been awarded seven patents for analytical algorithms developed, IBM, Cisco, and Dell/EMC. She graduated from the Stanford Executive Program in 2016.
